Initial Consultation
Your first acupuncture appointment will usually last about 90 minutes. During your initial consultation Dr. Mariana will have an in-depth conversation with you about your health concerns, health history, lifestyle, and goals for treatment. This conversation is an important part of the diagnostic process, and allows her to get to know you and understand how best to address your health concerns. She can then recommend a course of treatment specifically tailored to your priorities.
Treatment will follow and once acupuncture needles have been inserted into appropriate points in your body, Dr. Mariana will usually leave you to relax in your warm and serene treatment room for up to 20-30 minutes, allowing the needles sufficient time to influence your body’s energy. Most people look forward to this opportunity to relax during an otherwise hectic day and generally feel refreshed afterward.
Once the needles are removed, you will be able to go about your daily activities with a recommendation to relax as much as you can and avoid extraneous activities for the following 2-3 hours after so that you may receive the most out of your treatment. If you must return to work try to minimize your level of intensity whenever possible.
Follow Up Visits
Most last up to one hour. Follow-up visits also begin with a conversation, focusing primarily on progress and changes in your condition as well as any new concerns.
Your individual needs determine how often, and for how long, you will need to receive treatment (generally given once, occasionally twice per week). As your condition improves, and your symptoms are alleviated, the frequency of your treatments may be slowly reduced – to every other week, monthly or even seasonally.
We can do a consult either by phone, email, or in person – whatever is most convenient for you!
You can send me an email at [email protected], let me know what is your concern and any questions you may have.

FAQs
Is acupuncture safe?
This is a very common question among those who haven’t experienced acupuncture. When practiced by a licensed, trained acupuncturist, acupuncture is extremely safe. Acupuncture is proven to be one of the safest therapies available, used by millions of people all over the world and for centuries with virtual no side-effects. Dr. Mariana uses sterile, single-use, disposable needles.
Is acupuncture effective?
Yes, acupuncture is highly effective for a variety of conditions. I have seen many patients experience significant improvements in chronic pain, anxiety, depression, and fertility issues. Research supports that acupuncture can reduce symptoms and enhance overall quality of life. My tailored approach ensures that each treatment is customized to meet your specific needs, maximizing effectiveness.
Does acupuncture hurt?
Generally, acupuncture is not painful. I use very fine needles, much thinner than standard medical needles, which most patients barely feel. Some people might experience a slight tingling or a feeling of heaviness, which is a good sign that the treatment is working.
Are acupuncture needles used more than once?
No, I never reuse acupuncture needles. Your safety is my priority, so I always use sterile, single-use, disposable needles. This practice eliminates any risk of infection or contamination, ensuring a completely safe and hygienic experience for you.
Are there any contraindications for acupuncture?
Acupuncture is safe for most people, but there are a few exceptions. If you have a bleeding disorder or are taking blood thinners, please let me know. Pregnant women can also benefit from specialized acupuncture care, but it’s important to inform me so that I can tailor the treatment accordingly. I will thoroughly assess your individual condition to determine if acupuncture is suitable for you.
Does insurance cover acupuncture?
Insurance coverage for acupuncture can vary. Many insurance plans do cover acupuncture now. I recommend contacting your insurance provider to confirm your specific coverage details. I can also help you with any documentation you might need for reimbursement.
